Thermodynamics

Summer "Night Flushing":  Opening windows when it gets cooler outside  flushes the whole house with cool air.  Before bed, though, secure the windows on the levels of the house which could be broken into.  Windows on the second story are less likely to be targeted as an access point by a thief, etc.  Before bed is also a good time to make sure the deadbolt is locked on exterior doors.

In spring and fall, there is a "sweet spot" of time when upper story windows can be left open all day.  The fresh air is so wonderful!

Winter "Heat Preservation":  In winter, certain protocol is appropriate for heat preservation.  When you come in or go out an exterior door, please keep it closed unless you are actively going through it.  If a space is controlled through other means, such as a curtain, thank you for keeping that closed too!  A good guideline is to leave things as you found them.  With that said, it's also good to know the intent behind a protocol, so you can identify if things have been left in an optimal position.
