Laundry

The Summer Sonata has a clothes line on the balcony.  If this is your room, please use it to dry your clothes.  In this climate, it really works, year-round, to dry your clothes outdoors!  The dryer works well for softening them and finishing them off when they're still damp.

There are two clothes drying racks in the living room.  These are "finishing" racks also - clothes should not really be put on them straight from the washing machine.  That's too much moisture to put into the air within the house, but these racks are a good alternative to the dryer for finishing outdoor-dried or rained-on clothing.  The clothes dryer is one of the largest energy consuming appliances in the home!

After using the washer, please keep the lid open to keep it from getting musty.

Before *and* after using the dryer, please check and empty the lint filter.  Make sure the dryer door is closed securely.

Laundry detergent contains chemicals which are toxic and can be really obnoxious.  Fabric softener is even worse.  Fragrance-free and even homemade natural alternatives exist and can be a fun household activity.  This is a homestead, after all.  Let's make something which costs a tenth the price, works great, and gives us a feeling of independence!
